But first, what happened in October?

It was, of course, the Halloween Pick and Treat Litter Pick in Chalvey! We organised this event for the first time last year with the Chalvey Community Partnership. We decided to do it again, and many adults and children helped clean up Chalvey High Street and The Fields. In total, 28 bags full of litter were collected, and a desktop, scooter, and disinfection station…..so a lot!

All the children received a certificate of participation and sweet treats donated by The Mithai Box, Chalvey Community Partnership and Darren the dinosaur! The adults received samosas from the Mithai Box and drinks from K’s Pizza. Thank you all for your generosity!

We gave prizes to the best-dressed adult and child, Shoba and Jessica! Thank you for making the effort; you both looked amazing! Jessica even made it into the local newspaper Slough Observer

Besides litter picking, Shoba was also there to tell us about the One Billion Steps Challenge from the Slough Hub. The goal is for people to collectively walk One Billion Steps in Three months, From 1st October 2022 to 31st December 2022. The aim is to connect people with a common purpose and make Slough a Healthier & Happier place to live.

And what is the next plan of the society? We are starting something new… the Slough Repair Café!

A Repair Café is a volunteer-run event where repair coaches help visitors to fix their beloved but broken item and extend its life. Why throw it away when it can be brought back to life with just a little help!? It is a place to learn new skills, meet new people and create the habit of repairing and reusing things.
Repair skills available at the next event include, amongst others:

  • small electrical items (excludes microwaves and large items)
  • bicycle safety checks and minor repairs
  • mending, textiles repairs (excludes alterations or zip repairs)
  • fixing picture frames
  • basic woodwork, small furniture items

The date and venue are confirmed: Saturday 26th November from 11:00 – 14:00 in the former B&M store in the Queensmere shopping centre.

If you want to bring in a broken item, please get a free ticket (website below) and we will see you there!

But the repair café is not the only event happening that day! We are also organising a second-hand market. So declutter your house and sell your items! A great way to earn some extra spending money before December starts. You can bring your own 6ft table or blanket ( £2) or rent a 6ft table (£5) and sell your items from 10:00 – 16:00.

And last but not least, there will also be a free upcycle workshop between 14:00 – 16:00. Please bring your cotton-like or jeans item and upcycle it with fabric paint. Make it like new or turn it into artwork; everything is possible!

So we have got something for everyone on the 26th of November! Will we see you there?
