FAQ

About Slough Anti Litter

What is the Slough Anti-Litter Society? We’re a passionate group of volunteers dedicated to tackling litter problems in
Slough. We do this through community engagement, education, and organizing
events like litter picks and repair cafés. We started as a small community group in
2021 and have grown into a registered Community Interest Company.

Who can join the Slough Anti-Litter Society?
Everyone is welcome! Whether you’re a long-time resident, a newcomer, a student,
or just visiting, we’d love to have you join our efforts.

How is the Slough Anti-Litter Society funded?
Our funding comes from a variety of sources. This year (2024), we’re grateful to
receive support from the One Slough Community Fund and the National Lottery
Fund. We also rely on the generosity of local businesses and individuals. For
example, Tesco provides snacks for our litter pickers, and Cardo donates repair
equipment for our Repair Café.

Does the Slough Anti-Litter Society work with the local council?
Yes, we do! We work alongside Slough Borough Council, but we maintain a distinct
role. We complement the council’s waste management efforts, but we’re not a
replacement for their services. They help us by collecting our filled litter bags and
providing us with bin bags.

What are the Society’s biggest achievements so far?
We’re proud of the positive impact we’ve made in Slough. Our most successful
projects include:
● Our Repair Café, where skilled volunteers help residents fix broken items,
reducing waste and promoting sustainability.
● Regular community litter picks that bring people together to clean up our
streets and green spaces.
● The annual Upcycle Catwalk Competition, a popular event that showcases creativity and raises awareness about waste reduction.
